How to write a good text message

v.1.0.0

In this article, you’ll find tips on how to write a good text message.

The text message is crucial when it comes to creating a high opening rate on your goodiepacks. Around 95 % open text messages within the first 5 minutes after they’ve received it but this is no guarantee that the recipient will click on the link to your goodiepack. We’ve been analyzing and investigating which texts result in the best opening rate and the result of this work has resulted in the tips below.

Strategy and message

It is important to always have your strategy in mind when you write the concerned text. Therefore, always start by determining your message and purpose of the text message. For example, this could be:

  • Make sure to create additional sales
  • Sharing of information
  • Gather feedback from the customer

The three focus points

In the making of the text message, there are three things that are important to have focus on: to be personal and clear as well as to arouse the curiosity of the recipient.

Personal

The good text message is personal. If you already know the name of the recipient it is our clear recommendation to write this in your text message since it helps to create a personal connection between you and the recipient in head of the event. An example of this could be:

“Hey Lisa. We can’t wait to see you at the concert tonight. Click on the link and find all information:”.

For this purpose you can make use of interpolations which you can find more information about by clicking the following icon by the field where you type in your text message in the goodiepack designer:

Clear

The good text message is clear. This means that the sender and the message is clear in the text message. If the message is clear in the text it is easy for the recipient to understand what the purpose of opening the link to the goodiepack is. Further, text messages without a sender can look like scan and therefore it is important to be clear about who you are since it creates security for the recipient. You can read more about this in our help article How to share your goodiepack.

Arouse curiosity

The good text message arouses the curiosity of the recipient. This can be done in multiple ways but an example could be through a questions that could sound like this:

“Would you like to win 2 optional drinks? Click on the link before arrival and read more:”.

By arousing curiosity and creating a call to action you make sure to send the recipient to your goodiepack through the accompanied link.

Time for sending the SMS

Further, the purpose is always to have the recipient click on to your goodiepack and it can therefore be an advantage to send out the SMS during a period of time where the recipient has time to click on and see the content. This could, for example, be during lunch break, after the work day has ended or past dinner - all depending on your target group.

Finally, it is important to have in mind that “marketing” messages are received the best between 8 AM and 9 PM.

A text message could for example look like this:

Sum up

  • Be personal
  • Be clear during the entire communication
  • Arouse the curiosity of the reader
  • Be aware of the time for sending the SMS
